On January 8, 20 members of the Sun City Car Club met on an overcast Saturday morning to participate in the first club event of 2005, our popular Poker Run.
After signing in and receiving their car numbers and driving instructions from Phil Kaye, this years Poker Run Chairman, each car received their safety inspection to make sure their windshield wipers and headlights were working properly. Fortunately the expected heavy rains did not materialize and except for a few light sprinkles during the start, the drive was done in dry weather.
Both the driver and navigator selected their first card envelopes at the start adjacent to the Bocce Ball court. At 10AM the cars left the start in two minute intervals on their way to the next card envelope pick up location, the Palm Springs Air Museum, to the McCallum Theatre for their next card envelope and to the Bermuda Dunes Airport for card envelope number four before proceeding to the final location, the Stuft Pizza Bar & Grill in Old Town LaQuinta where they selected their final card envelope.
The staff of Stuft Pizza had a large table waiting for us and we all ordered our lunch while we discussed the event. Everyone participating in the poker run had a great time.
All of the sealed card envelopes were turned in at the restaurant and will be opened just before our next meeting to see who had the best poker hands and those winners will receive cash awards based on the entry fees paid.
Our next event will be a progressive dinner ride to five different members homes. More information on this event scheduled to be held in February will be given at our January 14th meeting at 4:30 PM in the Lakeview Club House.
If you have any club photos you would like to have included on the clubs website: Suncitycarclub.Com please bring them to our next meeting or you may e-mail them to: pacprod@pacprod.com
